Why this matters
Nau mai haere mai! Welcome to your governance self-review. Strong governance is the backbone of an effective public sector, and this tool helps you reflect on how well your organisation is doing. Based on guidance from the office of the auditor-general, this self-review explores five key dimensions of good governance. By taking part, you’ll get valuable insights into your organisation’s strengths and areas for improvement—so you can take action where it matters most.
Choose which format you would like your quiz participants to use
- PDF – We have created a PDF version of the quiz so you can send participants a PDF to complete the quiz with a PDF viewer of their choosing or print and complete it with pen (and scan to send their response back). Surveyors can manually compile results.
- Microsoft Form – We have created a Microsoft Form template for you to copy and use to have participants complete the quiz online. Surveyors can view results in an Excel table or in the responses overview summary section. Be sure to duplicate the template first.
- Send out the quiz in your chosen format. We recommend using Microsoft Forms, as results are automatically compiled, removing the need to enter data manually with the PDF responses.
How to complete the quiz
- You’ll assess your organisation’s governance performance across three levels:
Improving | Well Placed | Best Practice
- Each question presents a governance practice—simply choose the level that best describes your current state.
- Be honest! The more accurate your responses, the more useful your insights will be.
